Gateway Park and Center
New York, Floyd Bennet Field. 2007
Urban plan, infrastructure and landscape

The project focuses on a strategy to harness the intensive ecologies found within the Floyd Bennett site while also connecting to the extensive urban and parks network beyond. What is presently apparent on the site is a dominant segregation of uses and possibilities. We aim to counter this with a contiguous organizational model that weaves ecosystems and programmatic uses into a single synthetic territory. This connective strategy creates a unified identity for the Gateway project as a whole, yet which is capable of adapting to local particularities. Elevated surfaces provide vantage points from which one can see the partner sites on Staten Island, and Sandy Hook, helping visitors form a mental picture of the region itself.
